Sport & Exercise Psychologist MAPS CoSEP

Rachel is one of our sub-contractors who primarily works with Queensland Jockey’s Association and Racing QLD.  She has completed a Master of Applied Psychology specialising in Sport and Exercise at The University of Queensland.  Rachel is a member of the Australian Psychological Society and is registered and endorsed as a Sport and Exercise Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia. She is also a member and the current State Chairperson of the College of Sport and Exercise Psychologists.

Rachel works predominantly in South East Queensland and often travels to Central and North Queensland as part of her role as Sport Psychology Provider and providing Critical Incident management with the Queensland Jockeys’ Association and Racing QLD.  She is also a part of the National Sport Psychology Provider Network for Athletics Australia, Swimming Australia, and the Professional Footballers’ Australia.  Rachel works with sporting organisations, schools and colleges, and private academies, in addition to private individuals.

Rachel has experience working with international athletes, including Olympic and Paralympic-level athletes, from sports including rugby league, rugby union, swimming, weightlifting, goalball, and athletics.  Rachel has a background in sport and exercise science and has worked in rugby league, AFL and gridiron in strength and conditioning, athlete welfare, tactical training and sports rehabilitation assessment and management roles, giving her an additional perspective to bring to her sport psychology work.  She has also lectured in exercise and sport psychology at Queensland University of Technology and social psychology at The University of Queensland.  Rachel is also a regular contributor to a number of sporting magazines and provides expert commentary on sport psychology topics on radio and online mediums.

Rachel has experience working with people from a wide variety of ages and backgrounds and sports with a variety of issues including performance anxiety, maintaining focus, depression, career transitions, motivation, goal-setting, welfare and life skills, dealing with pressure, burnout, mindfulness, behaviour change (exercise, eating, substance use), motivation, and performance enhancement.

Rachel specialises in working with multidisciplinary teams to get the best performance and health and wellbeing outcomes for athletes. She also has a special interest in mental toughness, athlete welfare, injury rehabilitation, athlete career transitions, and helping athletes to reach the elite level in their sport.  Her specialty sports are golf, horseracing, rugby league, and rugby union, however, she also works in motorsport, triathlon, football (soccer), swimming, athletics, rowing, gymnastics, hockey, and equestrian.  She is ambitious about helping people to reach their potential in all areas of life including work and exercise as well as sport.
